Speaking about the game, George pointed out that Rivers United had a significant chance to take the lead before Enyimba scored from a free kick. “Before they scored from the free kick, we already had a one-on-one situation that we failed to capitalize on. That would have changed the game,” George remarked. He also questioned the referee’s decision regarding the free kick, stating, “I felt that the free kick should have been awarded to us (Rivers United) first, but the referee did not give it. Later, he awarded the free kick to Enyimba, and they had Obot, who has been a specialist in set pieces lately. We must give credit to him for the well-taken free kick.”
Rivers United’s Resilience Despite Loss
Despite the defeat, George commended his players for their determination and performance. “In the second half, we made some changes to try to influence the game. Although we lost the match, I am quite pleased with the team’s performance. It’s been a long time since we played this well,” he said. “Today, I must commend the players for their effort, but unfortunately, we are leaving without a point.”

Reflecting on his return to Aba, where he spent three years with Enyimba, George noted the continued affection from the fans. “You can see the love and appreciation from the fans. After three years with Enyimba, I am now here with a new club, but the support and love from the fans are still evident. I appreciate that,” he said.
Looking ahead to Rivers United’s next match in Uyo on Wednesday, George remains optimistic. “I think that if we play this way, we are going to win. So, I am quite optimistic. If we can replicate this same performance in Uyo, I think we will win or at least come back with something. I’m quite positive.”
