Former Kaduna State Governor and prominent northern political heavyweight, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has launched a blistering attack on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, calling it the “most corrupt, intolerant, and deceitful government since 1999.”
Speaking to journalists during a condolence visit to Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, El-Rufai accused the federal government of weaponizing propaganda to cover up escalating insecurity and economic mismanagement, especially in Nigeria’s North West.
“This is the most corrupt and most intolerant government in Nigeria. They lie daily that security has improved—meanwhile, terrorists still control many communities,” El-Rufai said.

“How many local governments are still under bandit control in Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto?” he asked pointedly.
“These terrorists are still alive and active, yet the government parades fake kills and declares security has improved.”
He listed notorious figures such as Dogo Gide, Bello Turji, and Mallam Abba as still active in the region, calling the federal government’s security claims “insulting and detached from reality.”

In a sharp political turn, El-Rufai signaled a looming shift in allegiance by hailing the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as a rising force with the integrity and structure needed to challenge Tinubu’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
While stopping short of formally announcing defection, El-Rufai’s remarks confirm ongoing opposition realignment efforts ahead of the next general elections.
“All the indices show it—this is the worst federal government in Nigerian history. Nigerians deserve better,” he declared.
