Leicester City Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi Available for £9 Million Release Clause Following Relegation

Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is reportedly available for transfer this summer after the club’s relegation to the Sky Bet Championship activated a £9 million relegation release clause in his contract. The clause came into effect following Leicester’s 1-0 defeat to Premier League champions Liverpool, confirming their drop with five matches remaining in the season18.

Ndidi, 28, signed a three-year contract extension with Leicester last summer, aiming to help the Foxes maintain their Premier League status. Despite this, the club’s relegation has significantly changed his prospects. Notably, Ndidi had the option to leave on a free transfer when his previous contract expired but chose to remain at King Power Stadium12.

Earlier this season, Leicester rejected a lucrative offer from Ligue 1 side Monaco for Ndidi, signaling their intent to retain the Nigerian international. However, with the relegation clause now active, the midfielder could attract considerable interest from other clubs during the summer transfer window12.

Since joining Leicester from Belgian side KRC Genk in 2017 for around £17 million, Ndidi has been a cornerstone of their midfield, renowned for his defensive skills and ball-winning ability. This season, he has made 27 appearances under manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, contributing four assists in 24 league games12.

As the Foxes prepare for life in the Championship, Ndidi’s future remains uncertain, with potential suitors likely to explore the opportunity presented by his relatively modest release clause.

“Wilfred Ndidi’s £9 million release clause is now active following Leicester’s relegation, opening the door for potential summer moves.”

This development marks a significant moment for Leicester City as they look to rebuild their squad after relegation, with Ndidi’s availability likely to be a key talking point in the upcoming transfer window.
