“You Betrayed Us First”—NNPP Torches Kwankwaso After Defector Remarks

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is in open revolt against its former presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, slamming him as the “real betrayer” and officially disowning his authority after he accused defectors of betrayal.
In a scathing statement Monday, NNPP National Chairman Dr. Agbo Major declared Kwankwaso expelled, irrelevant, and warned him to stop parading himself as a party leader.
“He has no standing in this party,” Agbo thundered. “Kwankwaso tried to hijack NNPP for his own ambition and now calls others betrayers? That’s hypocrisy at its peak.”
The clapback followed Kwankwaso’s attack on several Kwankwassiyya loyalists who recently dumped the NNPP for the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Senator Abdulrahman Kawu (Kano South).
The Breakup: How It All Went Down
The Kwankwasiyya movement—once NNPP’s lifeline—was admitted via MoU during the 2023 presidential race. But after the elections, the romance soured.
“That MoU ended in 2023. Kwankwaso had no financial commitment, yet tried to seize control. We severed ties, and the courts have confirmed it,” Agbo said.
Now, defectors are flooding to the APC, and NNPP isn’t blaming them—they’re blaming Kwankwaso.
“He lost control of the Kwankwassiyya movement. These defections show his influence is dead,” Agbo added.
Legal Gavel: Court Confirms NNPP’s Leadership
In a landmark judgment, Justice M.A. Hassan of the Federal High Court dismissed a suit by Kwankwaso’s loyalists challenging NNPP’s current leadership. The court ruled internal party disputes aren’t justiciable—a legal KO for Kwankwaso’s camp.
“Stop acting like you own the party,” Agbo fired. “You’ve been expelled. Go register your own party or stop trying to hijack another.”
Strategic Fallout: End of the Kwankwassiyya Era?
Political analysts say this moment may mark the final curtain for Kwankwaso’s influence, especially in Kano, where defections and court defeats are chipping away his base.
Meanwhile, NNPP is moving on, planning to restructure ahead of the 2027 elections without the shadow of Kwankwaso looming overhead.
Agbo concluded with a final jab:
“He should take advantage of Senator Ganduje’s large heart and return to APC—as a floor member.”
