‘I Support ADC Coalition But I’ll Never Leave PDP’ – Lamido Declares as 2027 Realignments Begin

Dutse, Jigawa State – Former Jigawa State Governor and PDP founding father, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has thrown his weight behind the emerging ADC-led opposition coalition but made it clear that his loyalty to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) remains unshakable.
Lamido made the remarks at a grassroots empowerment rally held in Dutse, where he addressed thousands of his supporters and party members alongside Senator Mustapha Khabeeb (PDP, Jigawa South West).
“Yes, I support the coming together of the opposition under the ADC. But let it be known — I will never leave the PDP,” Lamido declared.
“I built this party with my blood and soul.”
Lamido’s Strategic Dual Position
Lamido’s statement reflects the delicate balancing act of senior politicians navigating Nigeria’s rapidly shifting political terrain ahead of the 2027 general elections. While expressing support for a grand opposition front, Lamido drew a firm line when it came to abandoning his political roots.
“My role now is to offer guidance and ensure Nigeria finds her way back,” he said, stressing the need to rescue the country from what he described as the “misrule of the APC.”
Lamido’s endorsement comes as the Senator David Mark-led ADC coalition continues efforts to unite various opposition parties under one banner. With Lamido’s symbolic support, the coalition gains additional weight, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
Criticism of APC Governance
The former foreign affairs minister did not hold back in his criticism of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The APC has failed the people — at both the federal and state levels,” Lamido said.
“While PDP lawmakers are working for their people, APC lawmakers are only working for themselves. Let the people judge.”
He also accused the APC-led federal government of weaponizing poverty and despair across Nigeria, saying it was time for “mature, patriotic leaders” to take back the country.
Symbolic Gesture: Introducing ADC to PDP Crowd
In a rare show of political unity, Lamido introduced the Jigawa State ADC Chairman, Kabiru Hussaini, to the PDP crowd during the event — a symbolic act seen by observers as a message of open-door alliance politics ahead of 2027.
“This is the kind of cooperation we need to salvage Nigeria,” Senator Khabeeb echoed.
“From 1999 to 2015, under Lamido, Jigawa witnessed real progress — roads, schools, hospitals. APC has brought nothing but hunger and hopelessness.”
Khabeeb also showcased his empowerment efforts in the state, distributing irrigation equipment, sprayers, herbicides, and other support to over 3,000 constituents.
2027 Opposition Firepower Building Up
Lamido’s open endorsement of the ADC coalition—while reaffirming loyalty to PDP—suggests a new political calculus is forming: opposition unity without party defection.
Analysts say this emerging bloc may form a strategic electoral front in 2027 capable of disrupting both the APC and the internal fractures within the PDP.
“Lamido is sending a message — PDP is his home, but Nigeria must come first. That’s a shot across the bow,” said political commentator Amina Danjuma.
The ADC coalition has already attracted key figures like John Odigie-Oyegun, and is believed to be courting more political heavyweights in preparation for a mega consensus candidate in 2027.
