Labour Party in Flames: Abure Dares Obi, Otti to Provide Evidence or “Rot in Public”

Julius Abure, embattled National Chairman of the Labour Party, has dropped a political bombshell — challenging Peter Obi, Governor Alex Otti, and other party flagbearers from the 2023 elections to “speak up or shut up forever.”
“If they claim they gave me money, let them show proof. If not, when I open my mouth, they’ll smell like rotten eggs,” Abure roared in a viral video Tuesday.
Speaking during a tense meeting with party faithful in Abuja — and broadcast by Symfoni TV — Abure blasted what he called “cowardly whispers of corruption” and threatened to detonate receipts that could bury reputations.
No More Mr. Nice Chairman
Abure, visibly agitated, said he’s kept quiet out of loyalty, maturity, and party unity — but hinted that those accusing him were daring him too far.
“I kept quiet when people talked about money for agents. I took it all in. But now, some of them are crossing the line. Next time I speak, they’ll regret it.”
He accused the party’s only elected governor, Alex Otti (Abia), of contributing nothing to the party during the elections.
“That governor jumping like a cricket—he gave us nothing. I told him, ‘Use your money for your campaign. We don’t need anything from you.’”
Where’s the Money?
Abure challenged all LP candidates — especially presidential candidate Peter Obi — to come clean.
“Let any of them show what they gave me or the party. Not whispers. Not media shade. Show evidence. If not, hold your peace.”
He also alleged that the LP national leadership rejected multi-billion naira bribes during the elections, choosing “integrity over influence.”
But insiders say the party is now splitting at the seams, with rival factions calling for Abure’s removal, citing fund mismanagement, abuse of office, and lack of accountability.
