Dino Melaye Joins ADC, Dumps PDP Over Failed Leadership

ABUJA —One of Nigeria’s most flamboyant political actors, Senator Dino Melaye, has jumped ship — and this time, he didn’t go quietly.
The former Kogi West senator and PDP governorship candidate has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing what he called “total failure of leadership” by the PDP.
“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms,” Melaye wrote in a letter dated July 4, 2025.

Melaye’s resignation letter, which he personally posted on his verified 𝕏 account, was addressed to the PDP chairman in his home ward — Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu LGA, Kogi State.
“I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the party or lend my support to her agenda,” he wrote.
Not one for subtle exits, the former senator also shared a video of himself receiving his ADC membership card, effectively joining the coalition of opposition parties currently mobilizing against the ruling APC.
Melaye’s defection represents more than just another political flip. It is a direct indictment of PDP’s internal collapse. As a former spokesman of the PDP presidential campaign and one of its most visible faces on the 2023 trail, Melaye’s exit is a glaring red flag for a party already battered by internal rifts, elite defections, and grassroots fatigue.
“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I hereby tender my resignation from the PDP at all levels of involvement,” Melaye declared.
In that same breath, he lit a fire under PDP’s national leadership, blaming them for abandoning the vision of good governance and turning the party into a political shell.

The ADC’s Coalition Gains Momentum
Melaye now joins a rising wave of political defectors, opposition stakeholders, and former PDP allies rallying under the ADC banner — a coalition designed to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape in the run-up to 2027.
“The movement is about democratic redemption,” one ADC official said. “Dino is a loud voice, and his presence boosts morale across the board.”
Melaye’s entrance comes just weeks after ADC Chairman Ralph Nwosu revealed the party had turned down bribes and ministerial slots to remain in the opposition.
