APC Sweeps Kaduna Bye-Elections, Breaks PDP Stronghold in Chikun/Kajuru, Wins Zaria and Basawa

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scored a clean sweep in the Kaduna State bye-elections, marking a historic shift in the state’s political balance.
In the Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency, APC’s Felix Bagudu polled 34,580 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate who garnered 11,491 votes. The result is particularly significant as it is the first time APC has won this constituency, considered a PDP fortress since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.
A breakdown of the figures shows APC secured 24,093 votes in Chikun compared to PDP’s 4,702, while in Kajuru, APC scored 10,487 votes to PDP’s 6,789.
In the Zaria Kewaye constituency, APC candidate Isa Haruna Ihamo triumphed with 26,613 votes, leaving the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) Nuhu Sada Abdullahi trailing with 5,721, and PDP’s Mamuda Abdullahi Wappa third with 5,331 votes.
Similarly, in the Basawa state constituency, APC won with 10,926 votes, defeating the PDP candidate who polled 5,499 votes.
Observers say the twin victories in Zaria and Basawa strengthen APC’s hold on the Zaria zone, while the breakthrough in Chikun/Kajuru signals a dramatic erosion of PDP’s influence.
Analysts argue that Kaduna’s evolving political dynamics may reshape alignments ahead of future elections, with APC now firmly positioned as the state’s dominant force.
