Arsenal Sign Spain Midfielder Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for £60m

London, England | July 6, 2025 – IDNN Football Desk

Arsenal have completed the signing of Spain international midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for a fee reported to be just under £60 million, marking a major statement of intent by manager Mikel Arteta ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Zubimendi becomes the Gunners’ second summer signing following the arrival of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea.

“This is a huge moment in my career,” Zubimendi said.
“As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club is. The style of play suits me perfectly.”

Zubimendi unveiled as Arsenal’s newest midfield signing in a £60m deal from Real Sociedad after a strong Euro 2024 showing for Spain.

Why Arsenal Moved Fast

Zubimendi, 26, had been on Arsenal’s radar for over a year but rejected an approach from Liverpool in 2024. His commanding displays for Spain at Euro 2024—including a solid cameo in the final—accelerated Arsenal’s interest.

He made 236 appearances for Real Sociedad, scoring 10 goals, and was widely regarded as one of La Liga’s most reliable deep-lying midfielders.

“He brings intelligence, leadership, and tactical sharpness,” said Arteta.
“Martin fits our system and will be a key player going forward.”

Midfield Evolution Continues at the Emirates

With Thomas Partey aging and Mohamed Elneny departing, Zubimendi’s arrival provides crucial depth and technical sophistication alongside Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard, and Jorginho.

His ability to read the game and dictate tempo makes him an ideal metronome in Arsenal’s midfield engine.

Euro 2024 Boost and Spain’s Next Star

Zubimendi was part of Spain’s victorious Euro 2024 squad, coming on as a substitute in the final against England. His contribution helped La Roja lift the trophy through a late winner from Mikel Oyarzabal.

His international stock has risen alongside that of Rodri, and his transition to the Premier League is expected to solidify his place as Spain’s midfield future.

Arsenal’s Summer Rebuild

In addition to Zubimendi and Kepa, Arsenal are reportedly close to sealing deals for:

  • Brentford’s Christian Nørgaard (£10m)

  • A left-back replacement for the injury-prone Zinchenko

Sporting Director Edu confirmed the club is “far from done” in the window.

IDNN VERDICT:
With Zubimendi’s vision, Arsenal now have the tactical depth to compete for both the Premier League and Champions League. Arteta’s midfield may finally have the steel it was missing.
