FCT Senator Reverses Stance,Backs Probe Into Natasha’s Harassment Claim

Kingibe Makes U-Turn, Demands Investigation in Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Suspension Controversy

The Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan suspension controversy has taken a dramatic twist as Senator Ireti Kingibe reverses her stance and now supports a probe into sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Initially, Kingibe had criticized Akpoti-Uduaghan over a Senate seating dispute, but she later admitted she was unaware of the harassment claims at the time.

“I will be at the forefront to champion the sexual harassment case involving my colleague, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, when the investigation comes to the red chamber.”

Kingibe’s U-Turn: From Criticism to Advocacy

Just two weeks earlier, Kingibe faulted Akpoti-Uduaghan for her reaction to the seating reassignment, dismissing it as unnecessary drama. However, in her latest statement, she made a complete reversal, insisting on a fair and transparent investigation into the harassment allegations.

“My actions were not to undermine her claims, but to buttress that I was not aware in the first place of any such happenings. Notwithstanding, I remain steadfast in the fight against all forms of violence against girls and women.”

Call for a Senate Investigation

Kingibe emphasized that any sexual harassment allegation formally brought before the Senate requires a thorough and impartial investigation.

“It’s in this capacity that I am demanding an open, transparent, and fair investigation into the allegations of sexual harassment. Justice, fairness, and equity must be provided for everyone regardless of gender, position, or social class.”

She also reaffirmed her broader commitment to gender equity in political representation, vowing to advance the 35% Gender Inclusion Bill and advocate for special seats for women in governance.

Political Implications and Senate’s Next Move

Kingibe’s reversal adds pressure on Senate leadership to take action on Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations. With public and international scrutiny intensifying, the Senate must now decide:

🔹 Will it formally investigate the sexual harassment claims?
🔹 Can Kingibe’s intervention force Senate leadership to act?
🔹 Will Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension be reconsidered?

The Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan suspension controversy remains a major political flashpoint, placing Senate accountability and gender rights in the spotlight.
