Matheus Cunha Joins Manchester United in £62.5m Move, Inspired by Amorim
MANCHESTER, UK – June 14, 2025 | IDNN Football Desk
Matheus Cunha has officially signed for Manchester United in a blockbuster £62.5 million move from Wolves — and the Brazilian forward is clear about what sealed the deal: his admiration for new Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim.
“I’m Here to Help Him Succeed”
Speaking in his first official interview since joining the club, the 26-year-old striker said:
“I have a lot of faith in him. I hope he succeeds in conquering the world like he did in Portugal. I’m here to help the team and help him.”
Cunha’s emotional recount traced back to his childhood memories of watching United games at his grandmother’s house in Brazil — the only place that had Premier League access.
“For me, no one else is like United… This is a dream come true.”
Old Trafford Was Always “The Street Pitch”

He recounted playing on Brazil’s gravel pitches as a kid and calling them “Old Trafford.”
“It’s hard to believe I’m here now… very emotional.”
He also credited Wayne Rooney as the biggest influence on his playing style, praising the former No. 10’s “energy, sacrifice, and impact.”
Why United Moved Fast
Cunha enjoyed an outstanding season at Wolves, bagging 15 goals and 6 assists in 33 Premier League matches — comfortably outperforming every United player last term.
Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo were joint top scorers… with just 8 goals each.
Despite signing a new Wolves deal earlier in the year, Cunha declared in March:
“I’ve made it clear I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles.”
Deal Breakdown
United will reportedly pay Wolves in three instalments of £20.85m over two years. Wolves had rejected a five-year staggered offer.
Cunha becomes Amorim’s first major signing, as United look to rebuild a squad that managed just 44 goals last season — their worst ever Premier League tally.
Next Striker in Line?
United are still chasing Bryan Mbeumo and weighing up a move for Viktor Gyökeres or Victor Osimhen to complete their attacking overhaul.
