Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) leaders, Remo Stars, will have their eyes firmly set on today’s key fixture as four-time champions, Kano Pillars, host second-placed Rivers United.

This match could prove decisive in the 2024–2025 NPFL title race, with Remo Stars standing on the brink of winning their first-ever league championship.

Rivers United Face Must-Win Battle to Stay Alive in Title Race

For Rivers United, managed by former Super Eagles coach Finidi George, today’s encounter is a must-win. Currently trailing Remo Stars by seven points with four games left, Rivers United need at least a draw to keep their championship hopes alive.

  • A win would lift Rivers United to 61 points, cutting Remo’s lead to just four points before Remo’s upcoming game against Niger Tornadoes on Sunday, April 27.

  • A draw would maintain the gap but leave slim hopes with nine points still to fight for.

  • A loss, however, could see Remo Stars crowned champions this weekend if they defeat Niger Tornadoes.

Victory for Remo Stars would seal the title with three games to spare—a historic feat for the Ogun-based club.

Kano Pillars Eye CAF Confederation Cup Push

Meanwhile, Kano Pillars, who sit ninth on the NPFL table with 47 points from 33 games, have ambitions of their own. A win today could boost their chances of clinching a CAF Confederation Cup qualification spot, provided they maintain strong performances in their final matches and other results go their way.

Today’s clash at 4 p.m. promises to reshape the final stretch of the NPFL season.
