Plateau Killings in Bassa LGA: Grief Deepens After 47 Killed in Coordinated Attack
The Plateau killings in Bassa LGA took a horrifying turn on Sunday night as gunmen invaded Zike and Kimakpa villages in the Kwall District of Irigwe Chiefdom. The coordinated assault left at least 47 people dead and many others injured, plunging Plateau State into yet another cycle of mourning.

“An attack on Zike and Kimakpa communities in Kwall District of Irigwe Chiefdom in Bassa LGA resulted in 47 confirmed deaths, with many injured,” Auta confirmed. “The scale of this attack suggests a well-planned and coordinated assault.”
Two Weeks After Bokkos Massacre, Violence Spreads
This latest attack compounds the sorrow from the earlier Bokkos massacre, which had already attracted national attention. Security chiefs, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and DIG B.D. Kwazhi, recently visited the state to address the crisis.
Despite these high-profile visits, the killings have persisted, sparking questions about the government’s ability to protect vulnerable communities in Plateau State.
Officials Blame Land Grab Agenda
Governor Caleb Mutfwang and retired Rear Admiral Bitrus Atukum have both suggested that the Plateau killings in Bassa LGA and other parts of the state are being driven by a hidden agenda: to displace indigenous communities and grab their ancestral lands.
“These attacks are not just random acts of violence; they are targeted efforts to impoverish and displace our people,” Mutfwang warned.
Security Forces Silent on Bassa Massacre
As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from the Plateau State Police Command or Operation Safe Haven (OPSH). The silence has only fueled public frustration and led to growing calls for federal intervention.
Local leaders accuse security agencies of ignoring repeated warnings about the imminent threat facing communities in the Irigwe Chiefdom.
