Police Debunk Reports of Alleged Attack on Minister Wike’s Residence in Port Harcourt
The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that an arson attack occurred at the Port Harcourt residence of Chief Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Authorities labeled these allegations entirely false, misleading, and designed to provoke public unrest.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), clarified on Monday that no such incident had taken place. She described the social media reports alleging riots and the burning of Wike’s home and vehicles as “baseless and a deliberate attempt by mischief-makers to incite fear among residents.”
The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and order across Rivers State, urging the public to remain calm and disregard misinformation aimed at causing panic.
“We strongly caution those responsible for spreading such incendiary falsehoods. Individuals found guilty of propagating misinformation to disturb public peace will face the full weight of the law,” Iringe-Koko warned.
The command also emphasized the importance of obtaining information from credible sources and encouraged residents to report suspicious activities immediately to law enforcement agencies.
Minister Wike has not issued an official statement regarding these claims. However, authorities have assured residents that security measures remain robust and effective throughout the state.
