Portable Lands in Kwara Prison After Failing to Meet Bail Conditions in Osupa Defamation Case

Controversial Nigerian street-pop artist Okikiola Badmus, widely known as Portable, has been remanded in the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, following his inability to meet strict bail conditions set by an Upper Area Court in Kwara State.
The artist, famous for his hit track Zazoo Zeh, appeared in court on Monday, facing multiple charges related to criminal defamation in a suit brought by veteran Fuji musician Okunola Saheed (aka Saheed Osupa).
Charges Stem From Viral Instagram Rant
The legal drama stems from a March 2025 Instagram livestream, during which Portable allegedly defamed Saheed Osupa, accusing him of sabotaging his streaming revenue and publicly insulting the icon with vivid street slang.
“This man dey try bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa carry tortoise for stomach,” Portable said in the video, accusing Osupa of having his songs removed from Apple Music and Spotify to block his income.
The case, filed under FIR 117(1) CPC, was submitted by Osupa’s legal team to the Kwara State Police Command, alleging criminal defamation, incitement, character assassination, threats to life, and conduct likely to breach public peace.
₦1 Million Bail, But With Conditions Too Tough to Meet
Despite being granted bail set at ₦1 million, Portable was unable to fulfill the attached conditions:

One surety must be a Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN)

The second must be a resident property owner in a Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin, with a valid Certificate of Occupancy
The court ruled that until these criteria were met, the defendant would be held in custody at Oke Kura Correctional Centre, pending the continuation of trial.
Police: Portable Confessed During Interrogation
The Kwara State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed Portable was arrested in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday evening at 7:25 p.m. and transported to Ilorin for further questioning.
“The suspect’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.
The command explained that the arrest was executed based on a valid court warrant following what it described as “serious and corroborated allegations.” According to the Investigating Police Officer, ASP Adeniyi James, Portable admitted to making the statements but claimed they were part of “industry talk.”
