Governor Zulum Denies ADC Defection Rumour, Reaffirms Loyalty to APC

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has denied widespread online reports suggesting he is among six governors planning to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Describing the speculation as “baseless, mischievous, and politically motivated,” Governor Zulum said he remains fully committed to the APC and is focused solely on the development of Borno State.
“This is entirely false and exists only in the imagination of its sponsors,” Zulum said in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya.
“These are detractors seeking cheap relevance.”
Focused on Rebuilding Borno
Zulum emphasized that his administration is immersed in the ongoing recovery of Borno State after more than a decade of insurgency.
“We have no time for cheap politics. Our hands are full with the noble task of rebuilding and developing our dear state,” he stated.
He also called on the public to disregard the defection claims, warning that political mischief-makers were trying to destabilize governance with fabricated narratives.
“These distractions are designed to sow tension and divert our attention. We remain focused on serving Borno with dedication,” Zulum added.
APC Loyalty Firm and Unshaken
Zulum reaffirmed his unwavering allegiance to the APC and its leadership, stating that the party remains the best vehicle for Borno’s sustainable development.
“My loyalty to the APC remains firm. We are proud of what the party stands for,” he said.
His remarks come as opposition forces ramp up pressure ahead of the 2027 elections. Recent declarations by Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and others backing the ADC coalition have led to intensified speculation about realignments within the APC and PDP.
Zulum’s name was one of several mentioned in an unverified blog report linking him and five other governors to secret meetings with ADC chieftains. The report claimed they were planning a cross-party rebellion ahead of 2027.
Cautions Media Against Fake News
Governor Zulum urged the media to exercise greater caution and professionalism in verifying political reports before publication.
“We call on journalists and citizens alike to verify news from credible sources,” he said.
“Misinformation harms not just individuals but the democratic process itself.”
