It had goals. It had chaos. It had VAR in the 101st minute. And it had penalty heartbreak.

Egypt edged Ghana 5-4 on penalties after a pulsating 2-2 draw to book a place in the U-20 AFCON semi-finals. Momen Sherif’s first-half double was canceled out by a thunderbolt from Aziz Issah and a stoppage-time penalty.

But in the shootout, Dacosta Antwi blinked, and the Pharaohs didn’t.

Ghana finished with 10 men after Aaron Essel’s red card in extra time, while Egypt remain alive for their fifth title.

“We were dead on our feet but not in our hearts,” said Egypt coach Mohamed Abou Gabal.

They now await the Nigeria–South Africa winner. And after this madness — who’s betting against another miracle?
