Horrifying Ordeal: Woman Rescued After Being Tied Up by Online Dating Scammer
A terrifying incident unfolded in the heart of Abuja, where a 25-year-old woman, Promise Eze, was rescued from a hotel room in Wuse after being tied up, gagged, and left unconscious by a man she met on an online dating platform. The police are now on a manhunt for the suspect, initially known as Michael Prince but later identified as Emmanuel Okoro, who remains at large.
According to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the authorities were alerted on January 31, 2025, following a distress call from a hotel in Wuse. The call reported suspicious activity in one of the rooms, prompting swift action from the police.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Eze tied to a small chair, with her mouth covered in plaster, lying unconscious on the floor. She was immediately rushed to Wuse District Hospital, where she was revived.
The Deceptive Encounter
Preliminary investigations revealed a disturbing series of events leading up to the attack. Eze had met Okoro online, where he introduced himself as Michael Prince, an oil company employee based in Delta State. Despite his initial invitation to meet in Delta, the victim declined and agreed to meet him in Abuja instead.
On the morning of January 30, 2025, Eze checked into the hotel with Okoro. However, what was supposed to be a harmless meeting quickly turned into a nightmare. Okoro allegedly threatened Eze with a dagger, bound her hands and legs, taped her mouth, and confined her in the bathroom. He then fled the scene, stealing her two mobile phones. Before leaving, Eze overheard him speaking to accomplices, telling them he was going to regroup and return to “finish the job.”
A Call for Caution
FCT Police Commissioner, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the incident, urging caution when meeting strangers online. He warned young women, in particular, to be vigilant and to always prioritize their safety in online interactions.
The police have launched an intensive search to locate Okoro, and they are encouraging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the command’s emergency lines. As the manhunt intensifies, authorities remain hopeful that the suspect will soon be apprehended.
