Odumodublvck Claims His Headies Acceptance Speech Was Cut Off for Mentioning Jesus Christ

Popular Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has revealed that his acceptance speech at the 17th Headies Awards was abruptly interrupted because he spoke about Jesus Christ. The incident occurred during his speech after winning the coveted Next Rated Award at the ceremony held on April 27th, 2025, at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.

Mic Cut Off Amid Speech About Jesus

Odumodublvck took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to explain that the organisers muted his microphone as he began referencing Jesus Christ. He suggested that had he mentioned Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu instead, the interruption might not have happened.

“I was talking about Jesus and they tried to shut me down. I am hundred percent sure that if I was talking about His Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu I would not have been cut off,” Odumodublvck said. “I genuinely have no bad blood towards the Headies, rather, I am grateful they put my mic back on to spread the gospel.”

After a brief standoff where he refused to leave the stage, the organisers restored his microphone, allowing him to finish his speech. He used the opportunity to reiterate his faith, declaring:

“Jesus is king. He is before now and forever.”

Speech Highlights and Audience Reaction

Following the restoration of his mic, Odumodublvck passionately spoke about overcoming barriers and the role of his faith in his success:

“Against all odds, I have pushed against so many barriers like this. Couple of years back, there were so many feelings we could not express through our music. The world would clap us down; ‘you can’t be this,’ or ‘you can’t speak like,’ ‘you can’t do this,’ ‘you can’t release music in this way.’ Me standing here today is proof that all those things are fallacies. It only would have been possible through my Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ, who has been there for me through thick and thin. Tonight, God has shown that God reigns.”

The moment sparked widespread discussion across social media platforms, with many fans supporting his stand.

Carter Efe Criticizes Headies Over Posthumous Mohbad Nomination

In a related controversy, skit maker and musician Carter Efe criticized the Headies organisers for nominating late singer Mohbad in two categories: Best Street-Hop Artiste and Viewers’ Choice Award. Carter Efe accused the awards body of chasing clout, pointing out that Mohbad did not receive any awards while alive.

“Why Headies dey misbehave now, them go dey nominate Mohbad? Wetin make them nominate Mohbad? But when the boy was alive them no go give am o. Anything for the clout na him Headies go dey do,” Carter Efe said in a viral video.

Mohbad’s widow and son received the posthumous honours during the ceremony. The late singer passed away in September 2023 under controversial circumstances and is yet to be buried.
