Amid swirling rumours of a political rift, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday led a delegation of APC leaders to pay Sallah homage to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his private residence in Lagos during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The high-powered delegation included members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the apex decision-making body of the Lagos APC. The visit appeared to publicly reaffirm Sanwo-Olu’s allegiance to the President and dispel talk of strained relations.

“We came to felicitate with Mr. President and assure him of our continued support,” Sanwo-Olu said after the meeting.

From Viral Snubs to Visible Unity

The visit follows intense online speculation about a strained relationship between the President and the Lagos governor. A viral video clip from the May 31 Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway flag-off appeared to show Tinubu bypassing Sanwo-Olu during the proceedings.

Sanwo-Olu’s notable absence at the flag-off of the Epe-Ijebu-Ode seaport access road on June 3 added fuel to the rumours.

However, Sunday’s event — which featured prayers, photo sessions, and public goodwill messages — projected a united front. Sanwo-Olu was seen smiling alongside Tinubu, and members of the GAC praised the President’s performance.

Tinubu Lauded for Rail and Transport Support

Sanwo-Olu also used the opportunity to highlight Tinubu’s federal support for Lagos transport infrastructure.

He cited the Three-Train deployment of the Blue Rail Line, unveiled at the National Theatre station, as a direct benefit of Tinubu’s leadership.

“We can feel and see the impact of his decisions over the past two years,” the governor said. “Lagosians are grateful.”

Political Optics in 2027 Calculations

Analysts say the visit was not only symbolic but politically strategic, coming amid subtle 2027 realignments within the APC.

By standing beside Tinubu during Eid, Sanwo-Olu may have neutralized perceptions of disloyalty — at least publicly — as the party tightens its grip ahead of the next election cycle.
