Tinubu Orders Ruthless Crackdown as Plateau Killings Spark National Outrage

By IDNN News Desk

In the wake of the Plateau killings that have claimed dozens of innocent lives, President Bola Tinubu has issued a stern directive for security agencies to launch a full-scale manhunt for the perpetrators. The President condemned the brutal attacks on rural communities across Plateau State, assuring victims that justice will be swift and uncompromising.

Gunmen reportedly invaded Ruwi, Hurti, and Tadai communities in Bokkos LGA, as well as Manguna and Dafo villages, unleashing terror that left homes in ruins and families devastated. Tinubu, in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the attacks as “mindless” and “unacceptable.”

Plateau Killings: Tinubu Demands Justice for Victims

President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the recurring Plateau killings, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protect all Nigerians. He vowed that the atrocities committed will not go unanswered, stressing that the blood of innocent citizens cannot be spilled in vain.

“These intermittent attacks should have no place in our country,” he said. “The attackers will face severe punishment when apprehended.”

The President also instructed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate relief to displaced and injured victims of the attacks. He called on community members to assist security forces by volunteering information and resisting the temptation of reprisal violence.

Governors Condemn Plateau Killings, Call for Northern Unity

The Plateau killings have ignited widespread condemnation across the northern region. The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), led by Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, described the attacks as a threat to peace and a blight on the conscience of the region.

“The sanctity of human life must never be taken for granted,” Yahaya said in a statement issued by his DG of Press, Ismaila Misilli.

Yahaya urged law enforcement agencies to intensify operations and ensure the perpetrators of the Plateau killings are captured and prosecuted. He also praised Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State for his swift response and leadership during the crisis.

Ending Plateau Killings: A Regional Call for Dialogue and Peace

Governor Yahaya emphasized that peacebuilding and tolerance must become central to northern Nigeria’s response to violence, particularly in the volatile relationship between farmers and herders, often at the heart of rural conflicts.

“No meaningful development can occur in an atmosphere of fear and bloodshed,” he warned.

The NSGF reiterated its resolve to work together to end the cycle of Plateau killings and similar tragedies across the North through community engagement, stronger inter-agency coordination, and inclusive dialogue.
