IDNN reports that former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has openly accused President Bola Tinubu of turning the presidency into a political weapon against the opposition PDP.
In an interview with The Tribune, Lamido claimed that the president had reduced the Nigerian presidency to a partisan extension of the APC. He expressed concern that a national institution is now being used for political retaliation.
“The Office of the President, which should be a symbol of the nation, now behaves like a party secretariat,” Lamido told the paper.
According to him, PDP members in Rivers and Delta states are being targeted for harassment and intimidation. He described the situation as dangerous and counterproductive to national unity.
Lamido also questioned Tinubu’s credibility on the issue of corruption. He referenced past comments by former EFCC boss, Nuhu Ribadu, who raised issues about Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos State.
“He (Tinubu) has no moral ground to fight corruption,” Lamido said.
The ex-governor further criticized the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project. He claimed the contract bypassed key legal and financial procedures, including budgeting, competitive bidding, and National Assembly approval.
“No process. No oversight. Just a single man signing off a national project,” he alleged.
Lamido warned that the president must separate the powers of the presidency from party loyalty. According to him, weakening the PDP may eventually backfire on Tinubu and destabilize the political balance Nigeria needs.
“He needs the PDP more than anyone else to govern successfully,” Lamido concluded.
