PDP Expels Members Over ADC Coalition

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos has taken a scorched-earth stance.
In what party leaders described as a “necessary cleansing,” several members have been expelled for their involvement with the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led opposition coalition, signaling a hardline approach ahead of the party’s internal congresses.
“They betrayed the principles of the party,” said Segun Edwards, spokesperson for the PDP Elders Caucus.
The expulsions were announced following an emergency enlarged stakeholders’ meeting involving PDP elders and chairmen across the state’s 20 local government areas.
Their offense? Openly aligning with ADC, the same coalition pushing to unite opposition forces against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
PDP Expels ADC Defectors as Internal Warlines Harden
The language was stark. The decision swift. Those expelled were accused of “desecrating” party values and undermining loyalty.
“You cannot stand with another house while still claiming to be part of this family,” Edwards said.
The motion to expel was reportedly carried with full consensus, as local chairmen were also instructed to begin preparations for PDP’s internal congresses scheduled between September and November 2025, from LGA to National Convention.
This signals a clampdown not only on defection but also on dual allegiance, as the PDP attempts to stem the wave of internal sabotage that has fractured it post-2023.
The ADC Factor: A Growing Threat?
The ADC coalition, which has attracted disaffected PDP and Labour Party members alike, is now seen by the PDP establishment as a direct existential threat.
“We don’t mind competition,” one party elder said anonymously, “but you can’t eat here and cook elsewhere.”
With mounting frustrations over perceived stagnation and internal crises, the ADC-led alliance has become a magnet for political rebels. But PDP Lagos is making it clear — cross that line, and you’re out.
What’s at Stake?
These expulsions could reshape delegate dynamics as PDP enters a decisive political calendar. With state and national conventions looming, party leadership seems eager to prevent surprises and purge uncertainty.
“We will not tolerate political adultery,” one chairperson said. “This is war season. Choose your camp.”
